Enrollment for Spring highest ever

Arkansas State University-Jonesboro announced that a preliminary record spring enrollment of 11,056 for the Jonesboro campus, the highest spring enrollment ever recorded. This number shows an increase of 723 students, or 7 percent, compared to the spring 2008 headcount of 10,333.

"We are always pleased to announce an increase in enrollment, but announcing another record enrollment is indeed a special occasion," said chancellor of ASU-J Dr. Robert L. Potts, chancellor. "This record comes at a very meaningful time, as this institution is beginning its Centennial observance this year."

"We are grateful for the students and parents who continue to show confidence in our educational programs, and we are very pleased with the quality of instruction and student services that our outstanding faculty and staff provide every day," Potts said.

The number of undergraduate students enrolled for associate and baccalaureate degree programs is up at all ASU-Jonesboro instructional sites-9,270 students for spring 2009, as compared to 8,849 for spring 2008. There are currently 1,786 graduate students enrolled at all ASU-J instructional sites as compared to 1,484 students in spring 2008.

ASU-J has 383 international students enrolled for spring 2009 in undergraduate, graduate, and/or English as a Second Language programs-this includes 125 undergraduates and 150 graduate students.

There are 3,560 students enrolled in either Web or Web-assisted instruction provided by the Jonesboro campus, as compared to 2,683 students enrolled in Web-based instruction for spring 2008-which includes more than 227 students enrolled in online master's degree programs. Also, 481 students are receiving instruction by means of compressed video at other ASU-Jonesboro instructional locations.

The spring 2009 enrollment also includes 1,723 student-learners enrolled at 16 other instructional sites; some 769 individuals are enrolled in baccalaureate or graduate degree programs offered at ASUJ Degree Centers located in Beebe, Blytheville, Forrest City, Mountain Home, Newport, and West Memphis. 960 students are enrolled in instructional activities at other ASUJ instructional sites, including 562 students enrolled at ASU-Paragould. 313 high school students are enrolled in college-level coursework provided by ASUJ at six area high schools.

Dr. Rick Stripling, vice chancellor for Student Affairs, says, "This record enrollment is due to the combined efforts of many units in the university, including the Graduate School, our Web-based and online courses, both graduate and undergraduate, the Office of International Programs, and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. These numbers demonstrate the multifaced nature of our enrollment management plan.

The numbers also demonstrate how individual offices have maximized their efforts to increase their respective enrollments."
