Actually the first nationally chartered fraternity was Sigma Pi Fraternity. They were chartered as Alpha Pi chapter on March 7, 1948.

In fact, Sigma Pi Fraternity became the first nationally chartered fraternity on the ASU campus on March 7, 1948. Zeta Tau Zeta members were initiated into Sigma Pi one week prior to Pi Kappa Alpha.
