Students and IT staff have been working to open the new IT Store, but are still unsure of when it will be ready. Opening in the IT Store in the basement of Wilson should make it easier for students to fill their technology needs.
“Because of this new location we are able to interact with the students everyday, which helps us understand their needs better,” Darla Fletcher, Director of Technology Service and Support said.
There is no specific date set, but staff hopes to open the store in the beginning of October. Its hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The store will sell Apple products accessories for iPhones, iPads and cases, PC’s, headphones, media storage, game consoles, iPods, tablets, laptops and accessories. Students also can pick up free Microsoft software. “We are so excited to be able to offer Apple computers, because you literally have to go to Memphis to get those items,” Fletcher said, “The whole point of the IT Store is to provide students with the technology they need right here on campus and to give students real-world, hands-on experience in technology, marketing, web programming and more. Our mission is to give ASU students experience and to serve the campus better than ever.”
The IT store will be kicking off its opening week with a Tech Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its location. Student worker Madison Roddy, a senior marketing major of Jonesboro, has been planning the Tech Fair.
A DJ from 101.7 KISS FM will be providing entertainment, and there will be games and raffles. The store has several freebies including 2,000 T-shirts, iFrogz, and Sandisk and Lenovo merchandise.
Students can also purchase merchandise online by visiting itstore.astate.edu.
