On Oct. 1, 1992, Ted Turner, founder of the Turner Broadcasting System (TBS), created what is one of the most watched televised networks worldwide: Cartoon Network.
The network has been celebrating all month long with full episodes, games, a tribute video of every single character ever created by the network, and a chance for viewers to vote for favorite shows and characters.
In the early 80s, Turner purchased the Hanna-Barbera library and the early works of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) film library. MGM is behind the roaring lion that airs before a movie begins.
Back in the day, MGM was known for Tom & Jerry in the cartoon business. Turner bought this particular show along with others under the MGM program.

Hanna-Barbera was responsible for cartoons such as The Jetsons, which was accompanied by new shows Turner produced such as Dexters Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls by the time Turner bought it.

In the 90s, TBS was purchased by Time Warner, who also owned Warner Bros., the creators of Looney Tunes. Since Oct. 1, 1992, Turner has rerun the oldies, but also created new ones.

Cartoon Network showcases shows from the original Looney Tunes and Courage the Cowardly Dog to new cartoons such as Adventure Time and Regular Show, the latter of which received an Emmy.

I prefer Cartoon Network over Disney Channel any day, said Rendia King, a sophomore technology computer aided design major of Camden. The Regular Show is my absolute favorite. It just makes my day every time I watch it.

Maurico Bryant, a sophomore international business major of Gurdon, said Without Cartoon Network, every time it rained I would have felt as if my room was solitary confinement.

According to a Denver Post article by Jonathan Landrum Jr., Stuart Snyder, Cartoon Networks president, said, We recognize that while kids may never change what they like or dont like, technology is certainly changing.

Cartoon Network also meets the needs of viewers by showcasing cartoons on smart phones and laptops.

Mikka Rolle, a freshman biology major of South Haven, Miss., said The slang has changed and they are in sync with (the changing) times.

All October long, watch out for the classics as well as present favorites.
The Cartoon Network birthday bash will continuously air the special video recognizing more than 100 characters.

Go online to cartoonnetwork.com, and check out shows and vote in all 12 categories to unlock three wallpapers in honor of Cartoon Networks 20th birthday. The winners will be announced Nov. 3 and Nov. 4
