Last November, Justin Ingram stepped down as head coach for ASU volleyball after completing his third season.

Ingram finished 2011, his last year with the Red Wolves, on a high note by winning the Sun Belt Conference West Division Championship.

After a very successful season, Athletic Director Dr. Dean Lee went on a national search to find a high caliber coach for ASU to continue its success.

On January 11, David Rehr was named Ingrams successor as the seventh head coach of Arkansas State volleyball.

Everybody that you meet is really nice to you and welcomes you with open arms. Im really enjoying the move, said Rehr

Rehr joins the Red Wolf pack with a strong resume.

Last season, Rehr coached the Blinn College Buccaneers in Brenham, Texas to a 38-0 season and won the NJCAA Volleyball Championship.

Rehr also won the NJCAA title in 2008, became a two-time NJCAA National Tournament Coach of the Year, and carried a 313-35 record over nine years.

With a laundry list of success, Rehr was inducted into the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame last November.

Rehr will get a boost from having sophomore Megan Baska, a defensive specialist who was named a Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week four times last season.

We like him a lot, said sophomore Megan Baska. Its definitely a good change for our program.

While Rehr has only been in Jonesboro for a few months, he is already addressing key areas of improvement this off season.

One of the areas of focus is confidence in a new system.

They are playing a different way than they did last year, explained Rehr. Its them getting confident under this system. Its not a huge change but its more of a confidence boost for them.

Rehr wants to improve ASUs mental game, and put a focus on the teams defense this next season.

People can come in and swing, said Rehr. But its learning to play defense and taking pride in defense.

Over all, Rehr wants to build a strong volleyball program for both the players and the community.

We want to represent Arkansas State; thats the biggest thing, said Rehr. In a positive way where everybody is proud of us. We want student support, [and] community support. Wins and losses are gonna come from the way that you play and the attitude that you have.

The Lady Red Wolves will get to show off their new attitude when they return to the court for their 2012 campaign in the fall.
