Profiting from fear of global warming

The ‘global warming’ debate has affected America greatly over the last 50 years.
During this time, American businesses have felt the effects government regulation has had on many industries, like manufacturing and energy production.
For years we have heard that we have to stop global warming.
Well, everyone dance a jig and party down because according to a recent UN report on climate change, the average yearly temperature hasn’t risen in 15 years!
I doubt, however, you will hear any celebrating from those who have been telling us to fear this “eminent” doom.
I guess since global warming has stopped, then they have no reason to keep on advocating we make all these major changes.
No, they won’t realize global warming has stopped, nor will they accept the findings as anything more than a “speed bump“ to getting back on the rise.
A professor from the University of Wisconsin explained it as a 30 year repetitive cycle, going from warming to cooling trends.
I can remember back in the late 70s when scientists spoke of an ‘impending’ ice age. I can also remember the winters in the early 80s, because there was so much snow! But then, things changed.
It started getting hotter; and it continued to get hotter until, apparently, 1998.
The truth is, the earth’s weather patterns fluctuate between hot and cold; and they always will.
I can also remember living in Detroit, Mich. in ‘99. I had spent my entire existence, barring a brief excursion on active duty, in a small Northeast Arkansas town.
I had to drive to Detroit from the north. I can remember the temperature difference being some 15 or 20 degrees higher in the city compared to the country where I lived.
I may have chopped cotton in the south, but Detroit was the hottest place I have ever worked.
With all this being said, the question, at least to me, becomes: is there, man-made warming on this earth? Absolutely!
Live in any of the large urban areas of the country, where the environment is stripped of grass and trees, and replaced with steel, concrete, and asphalt, and hundreds of thousands of cars, trucks, trains, and air conditioners, and you will find where man-made warming exists.
This doesn’t mean, however, that man has created some planetary disaster, where we, as a species, are such complete masters of the universe that we could actually stop the planet from her natural state of existence.
The “fear global-warming” crowd has done nothing more than profit off of the creation of fear.
From the Y2K myth to the “war on terror”, there are people who make fortunes every time they can protect us from the inevitable and impending doom.
I believe our money would be better spent dealing with the actual problem when it occurs, instead of throwing billions of dollars to the crony capitalists and the politicians they support.
