The thought of changing the name of the busiest street in all of Northeastern Arkansas to Red Wolves Boulevard is the most school spirited idea that has ever been considered in this town. Talk about painting the town red!
The University has been working on rebranding itself in a fresh way in recent years. Evidence of this is the new logo, the building projects about campus, and a fancy new girlfriend for our beloved mascot. Renaming one of Jonesboro’s is another innovative way to show potential students that this isn’t their grandparent’s college.
Arkansas State University has been on quite the roll recently, both academically and athletically. Nothing would bring more pride to the university than having a street named after our noble mascot.
The success of the university has seeped into the town around us. Look at the massive population and economic growth that the university is responsible for. The least J-Town can do is give a little back.
When I was a freshman roaming about the beautiful campus of A-state, my favorite college football team was the Nebraska Cornhuskers. It only took one football season for that to change. Speaking as a student who has undergone a radical conversion of fanaticism, I think that having a busy street named after us will help cut down on those nasty pig shirts.
Everyone wants to be a part of something larger than themselves. It is much more exciting to be a part of something innovative and new. An act as simple as changing a street name in town can have a profound impact on the unity of this campus.
If we are ever to rise out of the razorback shadow that has engulfed the state, we need to do so by speaking in one accord.
Changing the name of Stadium will help feed the Spirit of the Wolf that is slowly growing on the northeastern edge of Arkansas.
