In a dominating victory, the Red Wolf basketball team snapped a three game losing streak to take an 83-59 win over Troy Thursday night at the Convocation Center.
Junior Trey Finn led the assault with a 20-point game with six baskets from behind the arc, while senior Malcoln Kirkland scored 14-points under the rim. Ed Townsel and Marcus Hooten also posted double figures.
"We worked hard and played one of our first complete 40 minute games. It feels good to win," said Kirkland.
ASU (11-17, 5-8) was firing on all cylinders by shooting 56.4 percent from the floor, while putting up 52.4 percent and eleven baskets from the 3-point line.
"Our offensive execution against the zone was excellent," said head coach John Brady. "We got good shots and we made the shots."
The Red Wolves also took control defensively by holding the nation's fifth best 3-point shooting team to just five baskets on 16 attempts.
"We knew they were capable of shooting the three really well, so we had to cover the best that we can," said Finn. "I believe tonight we got them out of rhythm from the beginning of the game and they never really got in a comfortable position."
After starting the second half with a nine point lead, ASU went on a 14-3 run that lasted around fine minutes and pushed the lead to 19.
The Trojans were never able to put together a full offensive drive and the Red Wolves took their first home game win against Troy since February 2006.
With a win in their pocket, ASU gets ready to face off against FIU in the last home game of the season.
"The timing of the win was great for us," said Brady. "I'll be surprised if we don't play well Saturday."
Arkansas State will play the Golden Panthers at the Convocation Center Saturday night with tip off at 7:05 p.m.
