Double figure scores from four players helped lead the Red Wolf basketball team to a 72-64 win over Louisiana-Monroe Thursday night at the Convocation Center.

Sophomore Ed Townsel dumbfounded the ULM defense on his way to an 18-point game which included a career high five 3 pointers in a single game.  Junior Adam Sterrenberg contributed a career high 18 points in the win while Rakeem Dickerson and Marcus Hooten posted double figures.

"Our team needed a win," said Head Coach John Brady, "It was a team we needed to beat and we were able to do it."

ASU (10-14, 4-6) struggled to make the inside shot, but made up for it with their precision from behind the arc with 43.5 percent shooting behind the three point line.

"The post and the guard did a great job with the ball," said Sterrenberg, who had a career high four 3-point shots on eight attempts.

The Red Wolves finished the half with a 12-point lead and came out of the locker room strong by extending the lead to a 19-point cushion.  ULM then went on a 17-2 run that lasted nearly six minutes and closed the gap to four points with 7:46 left in the game.

"Coach didn't want us to stop playing offense, but he was like ‘slow the ball down,'" said Townsel.  "I guess maybe we just took it the wrong way.  We lost some of our energy and they started hitting a couple of shots and we got back in it."

The Red Wolves got their momentum back by Sterrenberg, who scored back-to-back 3 pointers to push ASU to a double digit lead.

The lead gave ASU enough points to coast to the end of the game to defeat the Warhawks.  The win gives the team momentum for a game at Seattle Saturday.

"It's an opportunity for us to win on the road," said Coach Brady, "Hopefully our team will be able to do it."

Arkansas State will play at Seattle on Saturday against the Redhawks with tip off at 9 p.m.
