The Arkansas State Red Wolves softball club split their two games with Christian Brothers University at their “Paint the Park Pink” event on Sunday afternoon.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Red Wolves would rely on offense to help power them to a 7-4 victory.
Katelyn Brown would go two for four, driving in two runs while also scoring two runs of her own.
Katie Collier would also produce well at the plate, going three for three and driving in a run. The team would finish with 10 hits as a whole.
On the mound, Shea Cothren would toss a complete game, despite giving up four runs.
Two errors were also made behind Cothren on defense, but Cothren would bear down and limit the Buccaneers to only four hits total.
“This was our first win against a Division II school, so I’m definitely proud of that,” Head Coach Chris Powers said.
In game two of the series, defensive miscues would hurt the Lady Red Wolves.
Eight errors were committed on defense, which helped Christian Brothers to a 9-7 victory. The Buccaneers would score six runs in the top of the sixth to help turn a 3-2 lead into a comfortable seven run lead.
The Red Wolves would not go quietly, however, answering with five of their own in the bottom half of the inning, three of which came via a home run by Erica Whitaker.
The Red Wolves would also put runners on in the bottom half of the seventh, but would fail score, sealing the win for Christian Brothers.
Along with the eight miscues by the Red Wolves, Christian Brothers pounded out eight hits.
Gabrielle Sereika would go three for four with a double and an RBI while Alexis Seward picked up two RBIs on the afternoon.
“We played solid in game one. Had some defensive miscues in game two that we need to correct,” Powers said.
The Lady Red Wolves will play their next contest against Henderson State University on Saturday, Oct. 5.
